A clean, minimalist strategy puzzle game built entirely in Commodore 64 BASIC!

Inspired by classic hex-merging mechanics, hex64 challenges you to manage a shifting honeycomb grid, chasing high scores, and adapting to evolving board shapes.

How to Play

  • The Goal: Place numbered, color-coded tiles onto the hexagonal grid to merge matching numbers and clear space.
  • Merging: When you place a tile adjacent to another tile of the same color, their numbers combine into a single hex.
  • Clearing Tiles: Reach a value of 10 or higher on a single hex to trigger a Clear! and score massive points.
  • Level Up: Score enough points to hit the target goal, and you'll advance to the next stage, introducing completely new board layouts!
  • Game Over: Keep an eye on your remaining space. If the board fills up completely and no moves are left, it's game over.

Features

  • Dynamic Board Shapes: Watch the grid transform as you progress! Adapt your strategy to shapes like the Flower, Ring, Arch, Wings, and the daunting Full board.
  • Tactical Foresight: The display shows both your current tile and your next upcoming tile, letting you plan your moves in advance.
  • Pure C64 Nostalgia: Features classic PETSCII character graphics and authentic memory-mapped color manipulation.

Controls

  • Type the number of the hex coordinate where you want to place your tile and press RETURN.
